Final Piece
When I first started this class I was a "one track thinker" and a little close minded. In other words, my creative juices weren't flowing. As you can see in the first picture of the flower, my thinking skills/creativity are very limited. This piece is way too simple. It's simply just a large flower with gradient painted petals. This piece was so easy to complete; it only took me one class period to paint. There is no creativity, story, detail, feeling, or any personal connection in this piece. I should have definitely put more time, thought, and effort into this piece.
In the second picture you'll see my clay watermelon piece. This piece is one of the best pieces of art work that I have created in this class. Every time I look at this piece it generates several different emotions such as joy, happiness and content. I put my heart and soul into sculpting this watermelon, and I took my time making it (this took about a week and a half to make). Creative is an understatement when it comes to describing this piece. I sculpted a triangle shape watermelon, a watermelon slice with bite marks in it, a plate for the watermelon to sit on, and three additional watermelon seeds. After this piece was fired, I took the time to paint and glaze the watermelon, seeds, and plate. In the end, my piece does closely resemble eatable slices of watermelon. This piece taught me that sculpting multiple things is a process and to be patient when working with clay.
